Restore Your 1967 Mustang With a Ford-Licensed Body Shell

Back in October, Ford unveiled a Mustang body shell that will allow enthusiasts to build their favorite classic Mustang. That's right, an officially-licensed, brand-new '64-1/2, '65 or '66 Mustang. The shell, designed with the '67 Mustang Convertible in mind, joins other "restoration parts" for classic Ford Mustangs.

The body is priced at about $15,000, and includes doors, the trunk lid, and all of the sheet-metal from the radiator support to the taillight. Unlike the original Mustang, however, it's made using modern welding techniques by Dynacorn. All you need is the powertrain, suspension, brakes, electric systems, interior and trim to piece together your dream car.

Okay so it's not as simple as we make it sound, but it would be pretty cool, wouldn't it? Ford sold more than 1.2-million Mustangs before it got its first redesign in 1967. Unfortunately it's pretty hard to find one in pristine condition. But, if you can find one in decent shape, you can use the parts from it to build your new '60s-era Mustang. Or, you can order completely new parts from Ford-approved classic parts suppliers. In fact, more than 90-percent of the parts needed to restore a 1967 Mustang are available through authorized suppliers.

So, you can bolt in a 390, 427 or 428-cubic-inch motor, or you can build a replica of the original Shelby GT350 or GT500 Convertible. Or maybe you have a classic Mustang but the body's rusting out? Rest assured that this new shell is stronger than the original and the guys at Dynacorn have rust-proofed it for you.

We sure do love those classic Mustangs here at Theodore Robins Ford, but there's something pretty special about the all-new 2012 Mustang, too, don't you think? Plus, no assembly necessary!
